Internal med chief resident, anesthesiology resident, DIS staffer join faculty

 

Medical Center leadership is proud to announce the following additions to its faculty and leadership staff.

Roderick “Seth” Brown, D.O.

Dr. Roderick “Seth” Brown, chief resident in internal medicine at UMMC, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an instructor in medicine.

After receiving his B.S. from Mississippi College in 2011, Brown earned his D.O. at the William Carey University College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2016. He then had an internal medicine residency at UMMC and at the G. V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center and was named chief resident in internal medicine in June 2019.

A resident member of the American College of Physicians, Brown is the author or coauthor of seven posters presented at scientific meetings in Alabama and Mississippi and is a volunteer at the Jackson Free Clinic.

 

Matthew Paul Buck, M.D.

Dr. Matthew Paul Buck, recently an anesthesiology resident at UMMC, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of anesthesiology.

After receiving his B.S. in nutritional sciences from Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, in 2010, Buck earned his M.D. at the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center, Shreveport, in 2015. He then completed his anesthesiology residency at UMMC.

A resident member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, Buck has given a UMMC Anesthesia Grand Rounds presentation on the opioid epidemic.

 

Xiaoshan Zhu Gordy, Ph.D.

Dr. Xiaoshan Zhu (Judy) Gordy has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of health sciences in the School of Health Related Professions.

After receiving her B.A. in teaching English as a foreign language from Anqing Normal University, Anhui, China, in 2003, Gordy earned her M.A. in foreign linguistics and applied linguistics at Xi’an Jiaotong University, Shaanxi, China, in 2006. She served as an English instructor at Hangzhou Dianzi University from 2006-09 before joining the Medical Center. While serving in a few staff positions in the Division of Information Systems, Gordy concurrently earned her Ph.D. in clinical health sciences at UMMC in 2017.

An active member of the Alpha Eta Society and the Phi Kappa Phi honor societies, Gordy is the author or coauthor of five articles in peer-reviewed publications, 11 presentations at professional meetings nationally and four scientific abstracts.
